S.S. “Bud” Jenkins, Jr.
Bud was a consummate gentleman who grew up in an era steeped in manners and tradition. He was a kind and generous man: a man of many talents and many stories. Bud wore many hats in his extensive career. He was an oil exploration geologist and found his niche with E.I. DuPont de Nemours & Co. In his 30 years at DuPont, he provided expertise to over 20 countries as a technical specialist with commercial explosives. He was the Director of Explosive Training for many years. He was an insightful and intelligent man who wrote technical papers and articles and taught classes to advance safety and efficiency in the explosives industry until he retired in 1986. Never one to sit around, in 1988 Bud directed his energy into founding a new company — Stemlock, Inc. He authored two books of anecdotal articles, "Short Fuses" and “Powder Punches” (illustrated by Christine Jenkins) and continued to write technical papers and speak at industry seminars around the globe. Bud’s hobbies included fly fishing and gardening. His roses and vegetables were enjoyed by many. He was a member of many organizations: the NRA, Fort Leavenworth Fox Hunt, Mission Valley Fox Hunt, Master of the Foxhounds Association, International Society of Explosives Engineers, and Society of Mining Engineering. The Jenkins family has established the S.S. Bud Jenkins Scholarship Fund with the SEE Education Foundation. Contributions can be sent to The S.S. He will be sorely missed.
